QUESTION
Essay 1 is an essay of not more than 1,200 words based on your study of Lessons 1 to 5. It is worth 15% of your final mark.
Your essay should be prepared using Microsoft Word or a compatible rich text format (.rtf) with 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font, double spacing, and with each new paragraph indented. Follow American Psychological Association (APA) style for citations and references of any material other than the textbook. If you are unfamiliar with APA style, or if you need a refresher, two good sources of information are apastyle.org and The Owl at Purdue.
Be sure the following information is clearly stated at the start of your essay: your name, ID number, the assignment number, and the name of the manager’s organization.
In a well-crafted essay of no more than 1,200 words, describe a managerial position based on information gathered from the person who currently holds that position—a friend, family member, co-worker, or someone you’ve never met before. The only restriction is that if you are currently employed as a manager, you cannot write about your own position. Consider this assignment as an opportunity to interview someone doing the sort of managerial work you would someday like to be doing yourself.
Lessons 1 to 5 provide the content required to complete this assignment. Lesson 1 provides insight into the kind of managerial position you are describing, its roles, and the functions and outcomes it serves. Lesson 4 covers the internal and external environments that pertain to this position. Finally, Lesson 5 will help you to identify the stakeholders whose interests are most likely to influence the decisions of the person holding this position.
A stripped-down version of the Marking Key used for this assignment should help you to better understand the demands of this assignment and, in the process, help you learn how to put theories to work. Pay careful attention to the Marking Key and the key terms used in it. Failing to address issues in the Marking Key will result in loss of marks. In addition, a sample answer is provided for you to refer to as an example of what an Assignment 1 essay might look like.
Prior to submitting your assignment, ensure that your name, your student ID, the name of your manager’s company, the name of the management position, and the name of the incumbent are clearly stated at the start of your assignment. (This information is not included in the 1,200-word maximum.) When your assignment is complete, return to the Assignment 1 page in your course and follow the instructions for submitting your essay.
Essay 2 is an essay of not more than 1,200 words based on your study of Lessons 6 to 10. Although Lessons 6 through 10 are recommended reading for the assignment, note that most of the assignment material will be focused on Lesson 10 (Chapter 8).
You need to submit two files. You should use Microsoft Word or a compatible rich text format (.rtf) when preparing your essay. Use Word, Excel, or a .pdf format when preparing the organizational chart. This assignment is worth 15% of your final mark.
Although much of the assignment content is based on Lesson 10, you may find the content in the other lessons helpful, especially as you evaluate the organization.
This video from Lesson 2 might also help you assess your organization.

Essay 2 Requirements
Essay 2 is much like Essay 2 except that, this time, you will not have a sample answer or the marking key to guide you. Nevertheless, you can still get a good idea of what is expected of you by analyzing how Assignment 1 was evaluated. Your assignment this time is as follows. Please ensure that you answer each part of the assignment.
- Evaluate the structure of an organization of your choosing. Provide an organization chart for the top three or four levels of the organization.
- As part of your evaluation, assess the appropriateness of the method of departmentalization.
- What is the implication for authority?
- What are the implications of the current organizational structure for job design?
- Conclude your evaluation with your recommendation for how this organization should be organized. What improvements can be made?
- In preparing your evaluation, keep in mind that you are expected to express yourself in a well-written, error-free essay.
As you work on this assignment, don’t lose sight of the fact that you are being asked to evaluate the organizational structure. So while you will definitely have to describe it, you must also evaluate whether or not its various aspects are appropriate in light of what you know about this organization. In other words, you have to decide whether it is the right structure in light of the organization’s goals and objectives. Another thing to note here is that, while the structures of smaller organizations will be more easily evaluated, sufficient information about them will be more difficult to come by unless you choose an organization with which you are familiar. The final thing to note here is that, for this assignment, you may use the organization for which you work or one for which you have worked in the past.
As with Essay 1, you are once again being asked to achieve the assignment’s objective with a well-crafted essay of no more than 1,200 words (not including your organization chart). As before, ensure that your name, your student ID, and the name of your organization are clearly stated at the start of your assignment. (This information is not included in the 1,200-word maximum.) When your assignment is complete, return to the Essay 2 page in your course and follow the instructions for submitting your essay.
ANSWER
ESSAY 1
In present days of globalisation, it is important for all the organizations to focus on effective management system to retain both the customers and the employees to the organization. In order to retain the position in the business market, the manager of the organization has to develop proper planning regarding business operations. The business aspects such as marketing, economic purpose as well as product development are the responsibility of the manager of an organization. This essay has focused on managerial role of a manger, Trisha Guevarra of Chachi’s, Canada that is located in Calgary. This essay has evaluated the importance of the role as well as responsibilities of the manger of this organization. Along with various types of departmental managers, the skills of them have been discussed in this essay. Along with the discussion regarding organizational environment, the relationship with the stakeholders of this business have been presented in this essay.
It is important for a manager of an organization to develop the organizational purpose; however, this is the tough point for a manager. As per the views of Namin (2017), a manger has to focus on mainly the basic planning for this organization. In case of Chachi’s, Trisha Guevarra plays managerial role within this organization in order to develop the sustainable growth of this business in Canadian market. The basic aim of her is to maintain the relationship with the suppliers to maintain sustainable value chain for this organization. Apart from this, she has the responsibility to focus on ethical and legal aspects of the organization. As it is an organization under food and beverage, the manger has associated with the planning to build an effective team for better quality services for the customers (Hanaysha, 2016). Controlling the issues and the negative aspects related to the business to serve the customer with better quality food and services by the manager of Chachi’s has helped this organization to retain the position. Along with these factors, Trisha Guevarra, the manager of Chachi’s has to focus more on financial budget planning as well as needs for technical resources to present this business in an innovative ways. In order to focus on future development of this business, the responsibility of Trisha Guevarra as an administrative director as well as this position has enhanced the managerial functions of her.
In Canadian context, the organizational development especially in case of food industry is based on the responsibility of both the managers and the workforce of the organization. The manager of Chachi’s has the purpose to enhance communication skill among the employees. According to Calvo Porral & Levy-Mangin (2016), it is important for the employees to develop the communication skill to communicate with the managers regarding their problems in regular basis. In relation to the planning manager, the manager of this organization has to focus on organize as well as lead the workforce to effective customer services. The business purpose of this organization has been enhanced through the activities of various departments. The manager of Chachi’s has to focus on staff management system by focusing on the requirements of the organization. In respect to customer’s satisfaction, it is important for the manager of the organization to recruit efficient staffs and organize proper training system to educate them.
Though there are some basic differences between the role of managers and the role of leaders of an organization both leaders and managers have the common purpose to meet the objective of the organization. Jabeen & Ali (2017) have commented that it is essential for all the organization to make interrelation with the employees to serve the customers in effective manner. Trisha Guevarra, the manager of Chachi’s plays both interpersonal and informational role to develop the business purpose of this organization. The functions of the manager of this organization have helped her to make decision to enhance human resource management system. Trisha Guevarra, is able to handle or manage the situation of the organizational environment and make proper decisions regarding the operation management and promotional sales for the food products of this organization. However, she has focused on the process to make both internal and external relationship with the stakeholders which has enhanced her interpersonal skill. On the other hand, according to Diab, Al-Bourini & Abu-Rumman (2015), to act as a spokesperson or the representative of the workforce of the organization can develop informational skill in a manger.
It is essential to adopt the ability to motivate both the employees and the customers to be associated with the organization to meet organizational objective. As per the views of Kim, Li & Brymer (2016), the capability to adopt technical skill as well as human resource management skill is essential to develop the organizational purpose. Trisha Guevarra, the manager of Chachi’s is able to motivate the employees to contribute better quality performance. In order to develop organizational purposes, the manger has to adopt technical accounting skills. The motivational approaches for the employees of Chachi’s have helped to make the quality of customer services better. However, she needs to adopt conceptual skill to develop better management system as a tool of management process.
The aspects of the external environment of this organization under food and beverage industry of Canada can be controlled through the functions as well as activities of the managers. Apart from these, the factors are able to help the organization to make strong relationship with the stakeholders. The activities of this manger of Chachi’s have focused on the ethical purposes or legal aspects related to the business. Based on the regulations related to workforce management related to wages as well as working hour, has been maintained by the activities of the manger. The competition with other food brands of Calargy, Canada can be considered as external force which can influence the business aspects of this organization which has been managed by the function of the manger. The primary stakeholders of this organization are the suppliers of raw materials to this organization. According to Rhou, Singal & Koh (2016), based on the complexity of external environment, the manager has to maintain the management process related to organizational resources. The role of the manger has the potential to fix the uncertainty based on complex environmental situation.
Trisha Guevarra has to focus on both socio cultural and technological trends of Canadian market. As per the requirement of the young generation of Canada, the economic trends can be influenced through the responsibility of the manager. Based on the views of Sanyé-Mengual et al. (2016), it is important for the manager of the organization to monitor the relationship with both customers and suppliers with the organization. Business aspects of Chachi’s and the role of the manager has planned some innovative strategies in order to enhance the potential of this organization to grab the market especially the young generation customers. Along with the regulatory changes within the organization, response to advocacy group regarding important information related to operation management is also important. As it is a small restaurant of Canada, the culture of it can be considered as high pressure. Tough competition with the rivals and cost effectiveness are the elements which can support high pressure culture of Chachi’s.
Chachi’s primary stakeholders are the suppliers of raw materials however, customers are the secondary stakeholders. The process of maintaining strong relationship with both primary and secondary stakeholders can help the organization to flourish in future (Rauter, Jonker & Baumgartner, 2017). Though customers are also the stakeholders of this organization, the relationship with the customers is based on the performance of the employees or managers of this organization. Along with these, maintaining legal and economic responsibility by the manger can help to support the success of this organization.

ESSAY 2
An organisation is a collective body of different functional groups working in an interrelating manner. The interrelation of the functional groups is the base of the development of an organisation and the profitability of that organisation as well. The importance and the implication of structure of the organisation and the departmentalisation of the organisation is needed to described in this following assignment. Along with this the implication of authority is needed to describe as well. The implication of structure in job design is needed to be described as well with the recommendation for changes needed in the organisation.
An organisation is mainly dependent on the manager of the organisation. However other functional groups are similarly important for the organisation. Miglo (2016) opined that the organisational structure is made up of the views of the Authority of the organisation. The authority of an organisation is made up of the owner and the senior managerial personals. In this case the Abilis solution is a consulting organisation for the solution of information technology of other companies. This organisation is made up of the owner of the company and different departments such as operation management teams of the software management, the directors of the company and the senior managers and the junior managers for the operation and external relations. These organisation completely dependent on these departments as of the information technological solution is the priority of these company.
Figure 1: Organisation structure
(Source: Based on views of Cusmano, 2018, p.23)
The structure of the company shows the owner of the organisation holds the main authority of the organisation. According to Fullwood (2017) the authority works on the management of all departments and the employees and the external relationship with other companies as it is a company based on the solution making for other company information technology. Thus it can be said that the organisation is made up of a single authority structure which develops the organisational management system. The authority of an organisation has the power to enforce new systems and policies for the organisation. The management of other departments are handled by the CEO, himself and he also responsible for the interrelationship of the employees. The structure of the organisation suggests the line management structure of an organisation which is a basic structure. This structure is good for the low number of employees but the increasing number of employees would be problematic to handle the situation. The authority of the company has the leadership role for the employees thus it would be helpful in the management of the employees as a single body in this case. Based on the views of Cusmano (2018) the multiple management body are the main aspect for the development and expansion of the organisation as well as better employee management. Abilis Solution as a IT solution company has a good market base in Canada industry. The development in structure of the organisation needed for the expansion of the organisation in the market.
The departmentalisation of an organisation has several implications such as the spreading of workload as well as the departmental management of different works. Thus it can be said that the departmentalisation of the organisation has a positive outcome. However, it will be difficult for the management group to handle numerous departments of the organisation. Departmentalisation of the organisation on the basis of work criteria has been seen in the organisation that is the Abilis Solution. The software application department is responsible for the development of the information technology software that is helpful in different kinds of problem solving, field design team is the team which is working on the design development of that software, integrated communication technologies department are the ones to develop communication system of their own company and the data control system department are department of controlling the data of the company and the clients. Maes et al. (2016) opined that this structure is a line structure of the company which has a good implication in the job design as well. The employment system however is handled by the authority of the company. Thus the line management system is better to manage by the authority and the employability of the employees is influenced by other departments as the departments are interrelated.
The departmentalisation of the organisation helped the owner to place the employees in the proper position as his or her workability. Thus the employee recruitment would be easy for the owner and the recruited employees would be placed in the proper position. The job designs would be easy as well in this structure of the organisation as the employees are placed on the basis of their skills. Thus it is helpful for the organisation to maintain the employees in the proper position. However, this type of structure could be assessed by the managers for any kind of external problems like the competitor competition, political and legal ethics of the country, the stakeholder analysis and other factors.
The competition of the market is huge as the global competitors are entering the market as well. Thus it can be highlighted that the business development managers are needed for this situations to handle in the organisation. The senior management teams with the authority have the power and the implication of the stakeholder relation for the business development and to sustain against the competitors of the market. Smith (2015) opined that the competitive marketing processes needed to be applied to sustain in the market as well. The structure of the company however, basic but shows promising attitude in the market as the company has gained market.
This departmentalisation process based on the job profile of the employees and the job offers for the organisation is better and simple to handle for the authority. However if the employee number is greater in future days then it would be helpful to rely on the matrix operational system structure. According to Maes et al. (2016) the operations of the organisation are based on the information technology thus they need to have a budget and stakeholder investment process for the future expansion of the organisation as well. To compete with other competitors of the market they need to create a management team for the external environment assessment and also needed to work on client number increase for their profitability. The management of the organisation would need to be introduced by the authority for the betterment of the organisation profitability and man management. The organisation needs a greater management team to manage all the aspects for the development in the market and the future expansion. The matrix structure of the organisation is recommended for this situation.
It can be concluded that the organisation structure is based on the management group of the company. The authority has the main power to implicate any changes in structure or policies. The management group has the authority as well. The simple structure of the Abilis Solution that is the line management structure needs to change in accordance with the development in the market. The organizational job design depends on the structure of the organisation and the employee management as well. However, the matrix structure of the organisation is recommended for the organisation to sustain in the future market. The Abilis Solution is still a developing company and showed good promise in the industry. After taking these recommended strategies would be helpful in the development of the organisation in the future market as well.
